Post-FOMC repair carried ESZ6 back through both prior-session distributions. RTH rebuilt value higher to 7708.75, but the auction could not sustain trade above the 7711.75 Monthly VPOC.
Overnight repair carried the auction back into the upper distribution
Thursday began with the market still processing Wednesday’s post-FOMC expansion. That decline had cleared a broad pocket of downside liquidity and relocated value into the lower composite. The overnight response did not simply bounce from the low. Buyers maintained a steady auction higher, reclaimed both distributions created during Wednesday’s trade, exceeded the prior-session high and delivered RTH a gap-up opening.
The larger context remains rotational. Over the past week, ES has repeatedly moved between two higher-timeframe distributions while conducting business through the thinner volume separating them. Price has used the low-volume transitions as pivots and the established high-volume regions as price checks. Thursday’s overnight recovery represented another traverse through that developing structure rather than proof that the broader auction had escaped it.
Responsive selling met the gap-up open
The RTH open was met by responsive selling from the upper portion of the overnight range. Price moved back through the overnight VPOC near 7686.00 and tested Wednesday’s value-area high. That prior value boundary became the session’s downside pivot: the test produced a response, but sellers could not establish acceptance beneath it.
The gap-up open gave buyers an advantageous starting location, yet the initial auction could not hold the upper extreme. Sellers forced a meaningful rotation lower, but the decline terminated at an established prior-value reference rather than opening sustained price discovery into Wednesday’s lower distribution. The response from Wednesday’s VAH initiated a rebuilding process, and fair value began migrating higher instead of remaining anchored near the morning low.
Multiple VPOC migrations rebuilt value higher
The session VPOC shifted upward several times and ultimately settled at 7708.75. That migration is the day’s most important structural development. Although the session remained balanced, the market progressively established greater acceptance at higher prices following the opening liquidation.
Higher value did not translate into clean upside continuation. Buyers recovered the 7713.50 opening price, but they could not sustain trade above the 7711.75 Monthly VPOC or reclaim the session high. The HOD also defined the initial-balance high. The IBL likewise remained open, confirming that RTH finished without extending either initial-balance extreme.
Late sellers regained short-term initiative and carried price beneath the migrated VPOC into the close. That weakens the immediate upside posture, but it does not erase the higher value development that preceded it. The next session must determine whether trade below 7708.75 gains acceptance or whether the closing decline is absorbed back into Thursday’s developing value.
Upside requires acceptance beyond the Monthly VPOC
The first upside decision is the 7711.75 Monthly VPOC, followed by the session high and open IBH. Buyers need more than another probe through that area; they must establish acceptance above it before the upper composite can become the active auction.
If buyers reclaim 7711.75 and sustain trade beyond the HOD and IBH, then the next structural test is the composite LVN near 7722.00. Continued acceptance through the LVN would bring the untouched September 11 VPOC at 7736.75 into focus as the next higher-volume price check.
If not, another failure to hold above 7711.75 would keep the auction inside Thursday’s balance; then 7708.75 remains the active fair-value reference, with the lower value boundary and Thursday’s low becoming the next downside tests.
Downside must clear the prior-value pivot
The session low aligned with Wednesday’s value-area high, making that boundary the first meaningful downside condition. Sellers must clear the low and establish acceptance back beneath prior value before the lower distribution becomes the active destination.
If sellers break Thursday’s low and gain acceptance below Wednesday’s VAH, then the next major price check is the 7657.25 composite HVN and Weekly VPOC. That is an established acceptance area and should be evaluated before assuming further continuation.
If trade traverses that high-volume region and sustains lower, the 7648.00 lower LVN boundary of the same composite distribution becomes the next structural pivot. That distribution contains the Weekly and 10-day VPOC references; acceptance through its lower-volume boundary would then expose the untouched September 16 VPOC at 7622.50.
If not, rejection of lower prices followed by a reclaim of 7708.75 would weaken the downside scenario; then the market returns to rotation around fair value and must again test 7711.75 before upper-distribution continuation can be considered.
Auction condition
Thursday repaired a substantial portion of Wednesday’s post-FOMC displacement without escaping the broader two-distribution auction. Overnight buyers reclaimed lost structure and delivered a gap-up opening. Responsive RTH sellers then tested the prior value boundary, but the market rebuilt value higher through repeated VPOC migration before weakening into the close.
Daily balance is confirmed. Weekly one-time-framing down remains developing and ends at 7785.50, while monthly balance remains developing. With both IB extremes open, the next auction begins inside unfinished intraday structure. Acceptance above 7711.75 activates the upper LVN sequence; acceptance beneath Thursday’s low activates the lower composite. Between those conditions, 7708.75 remains the central price check in a balanced, two-sided auction.
